The Merchant of Venice 1936
This groundbreaking production of the Shakespeare classic stars Tracy-Ann Oberman as Shylock, reimagined as a widowed single mother in London’s East End in the 1930s. She runs a small business from her cramped terrace house in Cable Street, desperately slaving to provide a prosperous future for her daughter Jessica, while also combatting the violent rise in antisemitism.
