Why is Judith a Hanukkah Heroine?

How is an a-historic tale of a Jewish widow beheading an enemy general in a Babylonian bedroom associated with Hanukkah traditions? Join award-winning fine artist, visual poet and Jewish educator Jacqueline Nicholls for a deep-dive into depictions of Judith in visual art and Jewish text to discover the story’s strange origins. This session will be a mixture of art history, Jewish study and drawing prompts. No art experience necessary, but please have basic drawing materials on-hand.

Jacqueline Nicholls is the creative director of JR’s new Artists’ Development Scheme.
