American Jewish author and illustrator Maurice Sendak is best known for Where the Wild Things Are, but he had a long, rich and celebrated career. In February 1975 a half-hour animated Sendak TV special aired on CBS with Carole King voicing the title character. Fifty years on, artist and educator Irene Wise will use Sendak’s own words to trace his diverse influences, including Mozart, traditional Jewish stories and American popular culture.
