As we explore Ireland’s Jewish community in the latest issue of JR, it felt only right that we hold a good ol’ knees-up for Bloomsday. This annual party celebrating the Irish writer James Joyce, takes place on 16 June – the day on which his 1922 novel Ulysses is set – and is named after the book’s Jewish protagonist Leopold Bloom. Cork-based musician, writer and educator Ruti Lachs will lead the festivities with live music and stories of the city’s Jewish music scene. Simon Lewis delves into Cork’s history, growing up Irish Jewish and will read poems from his debut collection Jewtown. Also hear about this Jewish history of Dublin from historian Natalie Wynn, and Belfast and Northern Ireland from Steven Jaffe, director of Belfast Jewish Heritage.
Please register below receive the Zoom link, which will be sent out one day before the event.
