UK Jewish Film launches a new documentary fund

To celebrate their 25th anniversary, UKJF is inviting filmmakers to document contemporary British Jewish life

To mark its 25th anniversary, UK Jewish Film has launched the Short Doc Fund. This annual initiative is designed to support up to five people, of any age, in creating three-minute documentaries about the unique traditions, customs, culture and everyday lives of British Jews in the 21st century.

Each selected film will be created on a micro-budget of £1,000, using mobile cameras and sound devices. The completed films will be viewed both digitally and in cinemas. The commissioned short documentary films will receive their world premieres at the 2021 UK Jewish Film Festival and be made available on the festival website.

Filmmakers are invited to submit treatments setting out full details of their idea, the most promising of which will be invited for interview. Winners will receive mentoring and support from UKJF’s BAFTA-nominated Short Doc Award Producer Benjamin Till.

A second part of the Short Doc Fund, which is sponsored by the Betty Messenger Charitable Foundation, will be a non-competitive open call opportunity for anyone who would like to send in their completed documentary short of one to two minutes.

To apply, submit a pitch and a bio of yourself, no longer than 500 words each, to benjamin.till@ukjewishfilm.org by close of business on Friday 18 June.
