Getting Away With Murder(s)

A new Holocaust documentary premieres this month after almost two decades in the making

We're pleased to announce that after 18 years of trying, filmmaker David Nicholas Wilkinson has finally brought his documentary, Getting Away With Murder(s), to the big screen. It is thanks in part to a sizeable donation made by one Jewish Renaissance reader after they read our feature about Wilkinson in the July 2019 issue, written by BBC journalist Robin Lustig, who travels with the filmmaker to Lithuania in the film to visit the place his grandmother was murdered along with hundreds of thousands of others.

Almost a million people in 22 countries willingly carried out the unprovoked murder of 11 million innocent men, women and children during the Holocaust, but 99% of those responsible were never even questioned, let alone prosecuted. Getting Away With Murder(s) examines the reasons behind this flagrant disregard for justice.

Wilkinson filmed across 10 countries, including the UK and in particular York, where the city’s Jewish population were massacred whilst under the King’s protection in 1190. As a Yorkshireman himself, Wilkinson said he's always felt uneasy that his own city was the setting for such a horrific crime. Therefore, it's fitting that York should be the place to host the world premiere of his film.

Getting Away With Murder(s) premieres Thursday 9 September. 6.15-10.30pm. £12.90, £10.90 concs. Everyman York, YO24 1AJ. gettingawaywithmurders.uk
