A snapshot of our recent JR Tour to the Isle of Man
Last week JR Tours enjoyed a trip to the Isle of Man to mark 80 years since the internment of refugees from Nazi Europe by the British government. The four-day tour was packed full of walks, talks, music and even a Blue Plaque unveiling. Organised by the Association of Jewish Refugees, the Blue Plaque ceremony was accompanied by a tree planting in Hutchinson Square, site of a former camp, to commemorate the history of Jewish internment on the island. Other highlights include a concert of songs composed by internees on the island by the Royal College of Music's Ensemble Émigré and a lecture by Simon Parkin, author of The Island of Extraordinary Captives, who also helped us research in the archives and find records for trip members' internee relatives.
