The Israeli singer marks the late great musician’s 88th birthday with a trio of covers
This month Leonard Cohen would have turned 88 and to mark the occasion, Israeli singer-songwriter David Broza is releasing a trio of Cohen covers. The first, released on the bard’s birthday, 21 September, will be the lilting love letter that is ‘So Long, Marianne’.
Following this a month later is ‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ on 21 October, then ‘Dance Me to the End of Love’ on 21 November. The full collection, entitled David Broza Sings Leonard Cohen, will be available to stream and purchase digitally worldwide.
“Leonard Cohen has always been one of my favorite singer-songwriters,” said Broza. “Our house was full of his music and poetry. Back in the early 1960s, my mother Sharona Aron, one of Israel’s first folk singers, knew Cohen and sang with him briefly in Hydra, Greece.”
The project was originally commissioned in May 2022 by Boston’s Jewish Arts Collaborative to celebrate the legacy of the late Canadian Jewish musician.
