Millions of Jews were slaughtered during the Holocaust, but some of the most brutal killings took place in Lithuania. These unthinkable horrors are documented in J’Accuse! A Cry from the Killing Pits of Lithuania by South Africa-born filmmaker Michael Kretzmer, who has Lithuanian heritage. The film tells not only of the massacre of the Litvak Jewish community – almost in its entirety with 220,000 dead – but also of the country’s denial of the traumas and idolising of the key architect of the atrocities, Nazi collaborator Jonas Noreika.
Following a screening of the award-winning documentary, we’ll be joined by Kretzmer and another member of the film’s creative team, plus Silvia Foti, granddaughter of Noreika, via live feed from California for a Q&A session and refreshments. Hosted in partnership with the Lyons Learning Project.
