As well as a gradual return to normality, we’re celebrating the launch of our July magazine and you’re all invited. The event will be streamed online via Zoom and is themed around London-born X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin, whose centenary is this weekend.
Franklin's sister Jenifer Glynn has contributed a piece to our latest magazine about Franklin’s life and career, which will be read by her niece and nephew, Veronica Franklin Gould and Nigel Franklin. We will also be joined by actor Juliet Stevenson, who played the pioneering scientist in the 1987 BBC docudrama Life Story (known as The Race for the Double Helix in the US) alongside Jeff Goldblum.
Other guests include biophysicist Dr Rivka Isaacson, who works in the same field as Franklin and will reveal what it’s like to be a woman in science today. Plus science writer Naomi Attar discussing the impact of Franklin’s work on contemporary science, including COVID-19 studies. JR’s editor Rebecca Taylor will delve into the July issue and JR’s executive director Aviva Dautch will chair the discussion.
Please register below to receive the streaming link, which will be sent out the day before the event.

JR has an ethical ticketing policy and is offering free tickets to this event, but if you can afford it, please donate to support our work. In celebration of Franklin’s research, we are proposing denominations of 18 – the numerical value of the Hebrew word 'chai', meaning 'life'.
