One of Stamford Hill’s oldest (and keenest) cyclists passed away early on Sunday morning

We were saddened to hear that one of our long-time readers, Norman Bright, passed away on the morning of Sunday 6 June. He was a man of many words – all of which had the power to induce fits of laughter – and had a disposition as sunny as his name suggests.

We were lucky enough to speak to him for our Meet the Reader column back in April 2018, during which he told us all about his love of cycling, his stint in the air force, what it means to be Jewish and his favourite parts of Stamford Hill, where he lived for the last 38 years.

Ever the joker, he never missed a chance to slip in a quip. For instance, when discussing his gold medal win in the over 80s category in a Birmingham bike race, he blithely commented: “How do you win? Keep going until the others die.”
