Genia (Jenny)

Genia (Jenny) Gerchikov and Erez Fogel, musicians of tomorrow – remember the names, you read them here first!

The July issue of Jewish Renaissance features Musicians of Tomorrow, a project to train and nurture musically-gifted young people in the North of Israel, an area starved of classical music. Project leaders violinist Dr Anna Rosnovsky and Leat Sabbah and students Jenny and Erez tell Judi Herman about the ‘house school’ run from a wonderfully welcoming home in the Galilee and how it's changing the lives of these extraordinarily gifted young musicians.

Here, ahead of their visit to the UK from 1 to 8 July, and thanks to Skype, you can hear Jenny talking to Judi Herman and a snatch of the brief, impromptu concert to which Judi was treated by some of the younger students when she spoke to Anna and Leat.

If you follow this Youtube link, you can hear Erez play Shalom Aleichem from the Friday Shabbat Service on the cello while he was in hospital with a transfusion in his arm.

Click on a thumbnail below for a mini tour of the house in Rosh Pinah where the students love to come and learn to make music.
